Ardem – Open World Survival Game Overview
Ardem
Ardem is an upcoming open-world survival RPG developed and published by Techtive Games. The game is set in a post-apocalyptic world devastated by a deadly virus and focuses on exploration, survival mechanics, base building, and player-driven interaction in a large persistent environment.
The game is planned to release in Early Access on PC via Steam in 2026, with further development expected to continue alongside community feedback.
Overview
Ardem takes place several years after the outbreak of the RHAB-14 virus, an event that caused the collapse of global civilization. Cities fell silent, infrastructure failed, and much of humanity transformed into aggressive mutated creatures. Survivors must navigate a dangerous world where nature has reclaimed abandoned settlements and resources are scarce.
Players explore a handcrafted open world measuring approximately 64 km², filled with abandoned locations, hidden paths, and remnants of the former civilization. The environment is interactive and reacts to player actions, allowing players to restore infrastructure such as bridges and electricity networks or permanently change parts of the world.
Gameplay
Ardem focuses on sandbox survival gameplay with strong player freedom. Players must gather resources, craft equipment, and establish safe shelters while dealing with environmental hazards and hostile creatures.
Key gameplay systems include:
- Exploration: Discover hundreds of locations across a large open world.
- Base building: Construct and customize shelters using various materials and decorative objects.
- Crafting and resource management: Gather materials, produce equipment, and manage survival needs such as food and temperature.
- Vehicles: Repair and upgrade vehicles to travel across the map.
- Electricity system: Restore power grids using generators, solar panels, wind energy, or other sources.
- Combat: Fight different enemy types with unique behaviors and attack patterns.
- Character customization: Modify appearance, gear, and playstyle.
Game Modes
Ardem supports multiple ways to play:
- Single-player survival experience
- Co-operative multiplayer with friends
- Online servers with up to 64 players per server
Server hosts can customize gameplay modes such as PvE, PvP, or role-play servers, allowing communities to create their own survival experiences.
World and Lore
The name ARDEM stands for “Artificial Demography”, a secret bioweapon project originally intended to solve humanity’s overpopulation crisis. The experiment went catastrophically wrong, triggering the global outbreak that destroyed modern civilization and shaped the world players explore in the game.
Years after the collapse, survivors must rebuild parts of society while navigating abandoned towns, overgrown infrastructure, and hostile environments populated by mutated creatures.
Development
Ardem is the debut project of the independent studio Techtive Games. The developers plan to release the game in Early Access in order to gather player feedback and expand the game’s systems over time.
Planned long-term features include:
- Modding support
- Expanded world regions
- New vehicles such as boats and aircraft
- Seasonal systems and skill progression
Reception and Anticipation
Before release, Ardem has generated significant attention among survival-game fans, often being compared to titles such as Rust for its sandbox gameplay and The Last of Us for its post-apocalyptic atmosphere.
The combination of a large handcrafted world, complex survival systems, and persistent multiplayer servers has positioned Ardem as a promising new entry in the open-world survival genre.
